Greek National Theatre

The Greek National Theatre, on its constant strive to promote culture through theatre, and to preserve the Greek cultural identity presents a colourful array of theatrical plays, both Greek and international, as well as a multitude of other cultural events and happenings. With four stages currently in operation in the centre of Athens, the National Theatre presents an intriguing selection of productions, and it’s always worth to be on the look-out for its current events.

Greek National Opera

The Greek National Opera offers an excellent repertoire of operas, operettas, operas for children, ballets and music recitals, along with a wide range of educational programs. Performances are held at the Greek National Opera’s two stages, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre and at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

Museum of Athens City

For a look into the history of the city of Athens, the Museum of Athens City by art-collector Lambros Eutaxias housed in the first royal palace of Greece is a romantic attraction in the city centre. The museum houses a collection of artwork, antiquities, sculptures and various craftworks, as well as a large 19th century furniture collection, an ode to Athenian history through the centuries.

Museum of Cycladic Art

A museum dedicated to the ancient cultures that evolved in the area of the Aegean Sea, Cyprus and the Cyclades Island complex in particular. Apart from its rich collections of archaeological artefacts from this region, the Museum of Cycladic Art also hosts a number of interesting art shows and exhibitions.

National Gallery

With an ongoing history of more than 100 years, the National Gallery features an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures, engravings and more from the post-Byzantine period until modern times. The Gallery occasionally hosts temporary exhibitions.

The National Archaeological Museum of Athens is one of the most important museums in the world, as it houses the richest collection worldwide of Greek antiquity artefacts. Located close to the centre of Athens, the museum offers an extensive look into the rich history of Greece you should not miss!
